Central Plant Optimization

Provided by Optimum Energy

The Problems:

1) Central Plants are often the largest energy user for a respective facility or campus, often using hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars in annual energy and water spend.

2) Many of the existing monitoring and control systems are focused exclusively on functional operations of the chillers and respective equipment, providing chilled water for building and process loads.

3) .  kW/Ton is a performance metric that measures how much energy is needed per ton of cooling.  The lack of coordinated system management leaves most plants operating at a performance standard that can mean 30-40% higher costs for the same amount of cooling output.

4) Maintenance and operations are also significant expenses related to central plants, and yet a significant percentage of these systems are not designed to manage the various pieces of equipment optimally, creating unnecessary wear and tear and shortening the life of the equipment.

The Product:

1 - Energy Savings: An effective central plant optimization system can operate most central plants at a metric of .6 kW/Ton or lower, whereas most systems that are not automated operate in a range of .8-1.2 kW/Ton, providing an opportunity for 30-50% energy savings.

2 - Water Savings:  Central Plants typically operate with large cooling towers which can use millions of gallons of water.  Reducing the chiller plant operational load has a significant impact on the water consumption as well.

3 - System-Level Management: Incorporating advanced intelligence into data analytics provides predictive maintenance and real-time fault detection for overall improvements to both maintenance and operations.

4 - Live Support: In addition to the automation and predictive tools, there is a dedicated support team to help problem-solve and remedy any issues your system might encounter.

The Competitive Advantage:

Optimum Energy (OE) has been the industry leader in Central Plant Optimization for nearly 20 years.  While many companies provide various alternatives to improve chiller plant performance, OE has stayed ahead of the competition.  They continue to hold their industry-leading status through continued investment in advanced tools, data analytics and artificial intelligence for a system that continues to outpace the competition.
