HVAC Equipment Refurbishment

Built by HVAC Armor

The Problems:

1) HVAC Air-Cooled (AC) Coils are subject to many environmental factors that cause degradation of heat transfer. This includes corrosion, bent fins, and dirt/debris that gets stuck in the coil and impact heat transfer and airflow.

2) Heat transfer efficiency and airflow blockage are key factors in the coefficient of performance (COP) which a key metric related to the energy efficiency level of HVAC equipment.

3) Cooling Towers (CT’s) and Air-Handling Units (AHU’s) also endure significant wear over time, including rust and other degradation that impacts the quality and reduces the life cycle of these systems.

4) Replacing CT’s and AHU’s is extremely expensive, especially given that many of these units are in locations that are difficult to access, such as rooftops, basements, above ceilings, etc.

The Product:

1 - Energy Savings: HVAC Coil refurbishment is a process applied to air cooled coils that includes straightening and deep cleaning the fins, applying a corrosion inhibitor, and then coating the coils with a mixture of protective coating and aluminum paste, improving system efficiency.

2 – Life Extension of Coils: Approach temperature is the measure of heat transfer insulation formed in chiller tubes created by scale and biofilm. High Cycle Softening creates a passive layer along the chiller tubes which minimizes approach temperatures, adding valuable heat transfer efficiency to the chiller plant.

3 – Reduced Capital Cost: CT and AHU refurbishment provides an alternative to replacement. It can be significantly less expensive to fix all sheet metal issues, replace fill, add insulation, replace fan motors, etc., vs installing new equipment.

4 – Reduce Downtime: Refurbishing equipment can be substantially less disruptive and reduce downtime when equipment is located in difficult to reach areas.

The Competitive Advantage:

Replacing old HVAC equipment with new equipment has advantages but is often unrealistic due to budget constraints and disruption to the site. Refurbishment is an excellent alternative, providing “like new” equipment that significantly extends the life and provides a better (and less costly) alternative in many situations.
