Laboratory Airflow Controls
Built by TEL
The Problems:
1) Research laboratories have the highest cost-related-to-space conditioning due to the 100% outside air requirements combined with the need for both heating and cooling.
2) Due to the variety of research performed in these spaces, the air-changes per hour (ACH) is also higher than most building use areas.
3) Environmental Health and Safety are of the utmost importance as many of the chemicals range from slightly harmful to fatal, requiring tight controls for pressurization and emergency response.
4) Fume hood sashes, though critical to safety, are manually operated, which creates the potential for safety occurrences. Cross velocity and turbulence in labs can cause safety events that are not easily identified, especially when occurring near a fume hood with an open sash.
The Product:
1 - Energy Savings: VAV airflow management controls provide substantial savings vs CAV systems that have not been adjusted to recent standards
2 - Airflow Management: Reduction of airflow to industry safety standards, along with tight management of pressurization, provides an optimal safe environment for the research staff.
3 - Safety: Ensuring the sashes are closed when not in use provides the highest level of safety possible for fume hoods.
4 - Lab Controls Display: Provides all critical information related to laboratory safety…ACH, CFM, Pressurization, Fume Hood FV, Temperature, and the ability to configure additional points of emphasis.
The Competitive Advantage:
Simple and efficient airflow management designs using high quality components provide the safest and most effective airflow management system available today. Costs are minimized through the utilization of existing infrastructure, and savings are maximized through an industry leading automated sash management system.
